Star Wars feels like it's literally built for strategy games and wargaming and aside from SW Legion, which itself is a tabletop game, and aforementioned old games it's more or less entirely untapped potential.Īnd fuck me, the FPSs have been such a let down. Why aren't there some Star Wars Grand Strategy titles? I think I would cry if you told me they were making a Hearts of Iron: Star Wars game focused on one planet, or a WARNO / Steel Division style Star Wars title with their classic Army General campaigns. Empire at War's space battles and mod scene are amazing but nothing is rectifying that dated ground combat. It's true! I feel like there's so much untapped potential.ĭo you know what I would do to get a Star Wars XCOM game? Creating a rebellion and recruiting rebels, or fighting the rebellion on a planet as the Empire? OR infiltrating a Separatist planet as ARC Troopers? And what about another Empire At War? The closest I've come to finding a game with space battles that fun is Battlefleet: Gothic Armada 2 and that's partially because I am a fiend for Warhammer.
Hell, I'm probably missing a few! I am goddamn starving for Star wars games. That's a massive list of classics, and that's just a (roughly) 10 year period. Not to sound like an old head, but I think the younger users and even some older ones forget how rich the 90s and early 2000s lucasarts years were: The tie fighter and x wing series, Shadows of the Empire, The whole ass Jedi knight series (dark forces 2-jedi outcast- Jedi academy is one of the best 3 game series ever imo) the rogue squadron series, the og battlefront duo, bounty hunter, the Kotors, empire at war, the clone wars and rots games. In the last 5 years we have Fallen Ordrer and Survivor and that's basically it. Even EA losing the exclusive license didn't seem to help, and the EA years were barren AF.
